How to Delete Word Documents on macOS

Deleting Word documents on Mac is not difficult if you follow the steps carefully. So, let’s walk through the steps to delete Word documents on Mac.

Step 1: Find the Word document

The first step to deleting a Word document is to locate it. If you saved the document to your Mac’s desktop, find it there. If you stored it in a different folder, such as the Documents folder, use the Finder to navigate to that location.

  • The Documents folder is the default location to save Word files.

Step 2: Select the Word document

Once you have located the document, click on it to select it. You can also select multiple files by holding down the Command key while clicking on each Word document you want to delete.

Step 3: Move the document to the Trash

Once you have selected the document(s), move them to the Trash. Either by right-clicking on the selected Word document(s) and choosing Move to Trash. Or use the keyboard shortcut Command + Delete.

Step 4: Empty the Trash

The final step in deleting a Word document is to empty the trash. To do this, right-click the Trash icon at the bottom right in the Dock and select the Empty Trash option.

Note: Emptying the trash permanently deletes the document, and you won’t be able to recover it. But, with a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can autosave a Word document to OneDrive. It keeps your files safe while saving disk space.

By following the steps outlined above, you’ll be able to free up valuable storage space and keep your Mac running smoothly.
